How I ended up at Nexus Gun Range in Davie
This was Ana's call, not mine. She brought me out to Nexus Shooting on Davie Road, and she also invited me to train with The Performance Club. I am Jamaican, she is my Venezuelan guest for the day, and we turned a regular Wednesday in Broward into a training day on camera.
Real talk, she was nervous. That is normal for a first time at a gun range. She worked with the range trainer, took her time, and listened. That is exactly how you are supposed to do it.
First time gun range tips from a real range day
Here are my first time at a gun range tips, based on what we did today and the posted Nexus range rules.
- Work with the range trainer or staff. Ana did, and that is the smartest thing a first timer can do.
- Wear closed toe shoes. Nexus requires them.
- Eye and ear protection on the whole time you are on the range.
- No alcohol or drugs before or while shooting. That is a Nexus rule and common sense.
- Keep the gun pointed downrange and your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- If your gun malfunctions, leave it at your stall pointed downrange and ask an employee.
- Nervous is fine. Slow down, breathe, and ask questions.
Nexus gun range social experience: networking through local venues
Here is what I respect about Ana. She networks through local spots. She does not just post online and hope. She shows up at places like Nexus, brings people with her, and builds real relationships in South Florida. A range day is a social experience if you do it right. You are side by side, you are learning something new together, and you are talking the whole time between rounds. Gun range date ideas and holiday date ideas in South Florida
Holidays are coming up and everybody is searching date ideas South Florida. Dinner on Las Olas is cool, but if you want something different, a gun range date in Davie is a real option. It gets you out of the routine, you both learn something, and the range staff keep it safe.

Nexus Shooting is at 2600 Davie Rd, Davie, FL 33314. Their site says it sits about a third of a mile south of I-595 on Davie Road, roughly 10 minutes from Fort Lauderdale airport, so it is an easy pick if you are searching gun range near Fort Lauderdale.
What should I wear to a gun range for the first time?
Closed toe shoes are required at Nexus, and they sell shoe covers if you forget. Eye and ear protection must be worn on the range. Past that, keep it simple and comfortable. Ladies asking what to wear to a gun range female edition: same rules, closed toe shoes, and something you can move in.
What is the minimum age at Nexus Gun Range?
Per the Nexus range rules you must be 10 or older to enter the range. Rental guns are only for customers 21 and older, and you also need to meet one extra condition, like coming with another person who is on the range with you or taking a class or private lesson.

Is there a first time shooter class at Nexus?
Yes. Nexus lists the NSSF First Shots program, free to Nexus members with pre-registration required. Range safety staff are on the range at all times to answer questions and keep everyone safe.
Is a gun range a good date idea in South Florida?
If you both respect the rules, yes. It is different from dinner and drinks, it gets you talking, and a range trainer keeps it safe. Nexus also rents out private range rooms for groups, per their site.
