🌊 King Tide Florida 2026: Adapt Dont Run From Water

Marc A. Taylor aka Unc Taylor of Taylor Marine on king tide Florida 2026: stilt homes, elevated garages, lifted rigs and flood prep. Adapt, dont run.

My live reaction: King Tide Sinks Florida. Muted autoplay, tap for sound.

King tide Florida 2026 | Fort Lauderdale | Unc Logic. Every fall the cameras roll down to Las Olas, Hollywood Beach and Miami Beach and act like South Florida is sinking into the ocean. Saltwater over the seawall, a car stalled on the Broadwalk, a sad sound bite, and the message is always the same: pack up and leave. I am Marc A. Taylor, aka Unc Taylor, I run Taylor Marine, and I am telling you the opposite. It is water. We live on the edge of the Atlantic. You do not run from it. You adapt.

What happened: record king tides hit Broward County

Late October 2026 gave us some of the highest tides Fort Lauderdale has ever recorded. Water came over seawalls on Las Olas Isles and Coconut Isle, the Las Olas Bridge shut down, Victoria Park had people stuck in their houses, and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk was sandbagging storefronts. Down in Dania Beach I was out shooting trucks pushing wakes through neighborhood streets. No hurricane. Just the moon, the wind and a lot of sunny day flooding.

Stop building like you live in Ohio: stilt homes in a Florida flood zone

The Keys figured this out a long time ago. If you pour a slab at grade right on a saltwater canal, you are betting your drywall against the tide chart every full moon. Build up. Put the living space on concrete pilings and let the king tide roll underneath like it is supposed to.

Already own on the water? Start with the seawall. A cracked cap or a bad backflow valve is how canal water ends up in your street and your garage. That is exactly what Taylor Marine handles: waterfront, seawall, dock and flood zone help across Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach.

Gear up: snorkels, lifted rigs and saltwater prep

This is Florida. You do not drive a low sedan through two feet of Atlantic and expect the engine to live. Half the stalled cars in Victoria Park last week did not need to happen.

  1. Snorkel the intake. If your air intake sits in the wheel well, one wake and you are shopping for an engine. Raise it above the hood line.
  2. Lift and coat. Lifted suspension, plus a lanolin rust coat on the frame, axles and trailer. Rinse the undercarriage the minute you hit dry pavement.
  3. Power ready. Generator serviced, transfer switch tested, power stations charged before the advisory drops.
  4. Park high. Know which garage or lot stays dry before the 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. peaks.

The ATV beat the slow response

In the video up top I react to the clips everybody was sharing: a regular guy on an ATV with a tow line, rolling through flooded driveways, pulling stalled cars out and getting families to dry ground while the official trucks were still sorting out street closures. Fire rescue did deploy high-clearance vehicles, and respect to them. But that ATV is the whole point. The people who handle the water best are the ones already geared up for it.

Same with information. When we are live on the stream, people in Victoria Park, Las Olas and Hollywood can see in real time which streets are passable, instead of waiting on a press briefing. That is situational awareness. That is Salt Life.

FAQ: king tide Florida 2026

Q: When is the next king tide in Fort Lauderdale?

A: The City of Fort Lauderdale lists Nov 5 to 11, 2026, with peaks around 5 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Thursday Nov 5, moving later each day. The next window after that is Nov 22 to 28.

Q: How do I prepare for a king tide in Florida?

A: Move cars to higher ground before the peak, keep electrical and valuables off the garage floor, clear drains, check your seawall and backflow valve, and never drive a low car through saltwater.

Q: Are stilt homes worth it in a Florida flood zone?

A: On low waterfront lots, elevating the living space on pilings lets tidal water pass underneath instead of through the drywall, and can help with flood insurance. Check your local flood zone and building code first.

Q: What areas of Broward flood during king tides?

A: Low spots near the water: Las Olas Isles, Victoria Park, Rio Vista, Riviera Isle and Coconut Isle in Fort Lauderdale, the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk and Ocean Drive, and Dania Beach near the pier.

Q: Where can visitors stay to avoid flooded streets?

A: Pick higher ground away from the Intracoastal and low canal streets during king tide weeks. Contact Unc Taylor at unc.wtf for VIP hosting that plans around tide times.
